Re Midas e il Tocco d'oro
C'era una volta un re di nome Midas. Aveva un grande regno, con molti palazzi. Nonostante tutta la sua ricchezza, tuttavia, non era ancora felice. Decise che voleva più oro. Un giorno, mentre stava mangiando, apparve un mago. Re Midas chiese al mago: "Concedimi un mago incantesimo! Qualunque cosa toccherò si trasformerà in oro!" Il mago rispose: "Il tuo desiderio è esaudito". Il re era contento.
There once lived a king named Midas. He had a large kingdom, with many palaces. Despite all of his wealth, however, he was still not happy. He decided he wanted more gold. One day, as he was eating, a wizard appeared. King Midas asked the wizard: "Grant me a spell wizard! Whatever I touch shall turn into gold!" The wizard replied: "Your wish is granted." The king was pleased.
Toccò il suo trono e si trasformò in oro. Toccò le sedie, i tavoli, i vasi e le statue e tutto si trasformò in oro. Re Midas era felice oltre ogni dire. Credeva di essere ora l'uomo più ricco del mondo. Tornò a tavola per mangiare. Mentre prendeva la sua forchetta, anch'essa si trasformò in oro. Poi ha toccato il suo piatto ed esso e il suo cibo si sono trasformati in oro. Il re era stupito. Non poteva mangiare né bere nulla.
He touched his throne and it turned into gold. He touched the chairs, tables, vases, and statues and they all truned into gold. King Midas was happy beyond words. He believed he was now the richest man in the world. He returned back to the dinner table to eat. As he picked up his fork, it too turned into gold. Then he touched his plate and it and his food turned into gold. The king was astonished. He could not eat or drink anything.
All'improvviso, sua figlia si precipitò nella stanza. Mentre la abbracciava, anche lei si trasformò in una statua d'oro. Re Midas era scioccato.
Suddenly, his daughter rushed into the room. As he put his arms around her, she too turned into a statue of gold. King Midas was shocked.
"Oh no!" - esclamò il re. "Non voglio più oro. Rivoglio mia figlia!"
"Oh no!" - the king exclaimed. "I do not want any more gold. I want my daughter back!"
Quindi, il mago riapparve con una bottiglia d'acqua e disse: "Spruzza quest'acqua su tutto ciò che hai trasformato in oro".
Then, the wizard appeared again with a bottle of water and said: "Sprinkle this water over everything you have turned into gold."
Il re fece come gli era stato detto e con suo grande stupore, tutto l'oro che aveva spruzzato con acqua, tornò alla sua forma originale.
The king did as he was told and to his amazement, all of the gold he sprinkled with water, came back to their original form.
Quel giorno il re imparò una lezione molto importante: "La vita vale molto più dell'oro".
The king learned a very important lesson that day: "Life is worth much more than gold."
